Redline MtL or Mt-90 for transmission?
my owners manual sates to use a sae 80 weight for api/ Gl-4, it's an 85.5 944.
also says 2 litres. I called lordco and go them to order 3 quarts of Mt-90 gear oil but I'm not sure if mt-90 is the best to use or if MTL would be better.
I have swepco 201 in it right now and my tranny did not grind in the summer but now in the colder temps it grinds going into 2nd gear all the time. only 2 gear.
I want to try redline to see if it works better than the swepco for grinding synchro problem.
also I'm not sure if I filled the tranny properly (did it 4 months ago). I could not see in the hole to see if it was filled to the top, I tried putting my finger in there but hard to feel the liquid.
so I just added fluid till a bit would drip out. with the redline I think 2 quarts and another 100 mm should be right (2 L).

also what do you guys think of Quaker state Q advanced full synthetic oil. I always get the cheapest synthetic on sale (5w50) and the quaker state was 50 percent off 19 bucks for 4.4 l so I thought that was a really good deal for full synthetic.
I'm guessing quaker state synthetic is not going to be as good as mobil one or castrol but it was half the price of castrol and mobil one when on sale so I didn't want to pay double. I would think it should still be better than the best dyno oil.

I phoned lordco and got them to order mt-90 so should I get mtl instead or would mt-90 work too?
I read that mt-90 is for racing and on street won't work properly so I'm not sure anymore.
also read that mtl is too thin and mt-90 is better so kind of confused.
I manly want it to improve my grinding problem when shifting into 2nd gear.

I've currently got MTL in my car and it works great. That includes one moderately-hard track day as well. FWIW Clark's recommends MTL. I've the MT-90 will be too thick and isn't designed for the type of tranny we've got.

yeah but then clarks says to use mobil one 75w90.
and MTL is 70w80 and mt-90 is 75w90. why would you use a thicker mobil one oil and thinner with redline.

not sure what swepco 201 is that's what I have in it right now.
just did a search and swepco 201 is 80w90 so even thicker than mt-90 could this be why my second gear is now grinding in the colder temps of winter?
in the summer I had no more grinds with swepco and was happy abou that.
so would the thinner mtl be better than the mt-90 / swepco for grinding synchros?
or does weight not effect grinding.

Mobil One is like honey compared to MTL. MTL pours like red water. You will hear more noise from the transaxle. It does shift much better than Mobil One below 40 degrees.

hmm so what about mt-90 that is the same weight as the mobil 1 but less thick still than the current swepco 201.
I'm trying to help reduce my second gear grind which seems to have gotten worse in the colder temps of winter. It doesn't get too cold here rarely goes below 0 degrees usually between 5-10 degrees in winter so it's not that cold, but still the 2nd gear grind has gotten worse as compared to how it was in the summer.

FWIW, I've been very happy with Redline 75W90NS in the racecar... street car has MTL in it. A little stiff when cold, but works great. The 75W90NS is necessary in the racecar 'cause of the weak LSD - MTL was too slippery and the diff just spun like an open.

i, personally, have never had any transmission that i put redline in last ..it ALWAYS failed after using redline. never again, i would suggest Lubromoloy or factory stuff

If the clutches are worn, you can use something that will help them grab (which 75-90NS is) , but I wouldnt run that straight unless you know your LSD clutches are on the way out.
