My Supercharged 86 N/A
Hey, I've been there done it!! Ran an SN/89 on my 86 NA. I fabricated the whole kit my self with Mafterburner A/F management. I'm a pretty technical guy and it took lots of work to get the car running right. There are also may other bits like bigger injectors, adjustable FPR and you would probably need to get a Wideband O2 sensor to get the right AF, with out a Wideband its like shooting in the dark. I would recommend you use the 968 motor with a stronger rear end (944 Turbo Transmission). One other point, I was only able to get 5 psi with the 951 intercooler, although the SN89 shimmed at 28” lb of torque and was supposed to produce 11 psi, you could try increasing the torque so the ***** wont slip but that will increase the load on your motor. I have recently removed the Paxton SN/89 and my car is currently turbo charged, Ill be building a full turbo motor over the winter.

Seriously If you're planning on putting on an SC or Turbo or what have you, I think the 3.0 would be a more stable platform to build it on. No use buying the motor and letting it sit around collecting dust you know?

A 968 motor will make as much power as a moderately supercharged 944 motor. Plus it has many advancements and advantages in technology.
Nice car! The euro bumpers are very nice and that's the way Porsche intended the car to look. The North American bumpers are a misguided afterthought slapped on to meet our government's standards at the time. Blegh.

Pretty much anythingto do with the variocam gubbins is never cheap. The one I had (its gone now) needed the chain doing plus repairs/replacement cams. That would of added another £1000 on top of the £2000 I had already paid.
The other thing to consider is that I'm new to charging motors and practicing on 68 motor with its 11:1 c/r isn't a good thing!!!!
If I blew away a piston or something in my fumblings I would be up s**t creek. I'm buying a house soon so I don't want something that can produce large repairs bills, as mentioned earlier, if I blow up a 2.5 motor I can get another one for £100 here and slap it in plus my thinking is if 951 motors have the ability to go as 500hp (with internal mods) in extreme cases then so does mine!
I'm using this as a practice run though, later on (like years later) when I have more experiance I would like to build a 16v turbo or supercharged motor.
My last car went the same route, a ford capri with 4.0 rover v8, lots of internal mods and some custom made manifolds to take 8 cbr600 throttle bodies running on a v3 megasquirt. I did want to charge that but thanks to this porsche that went!!

Ah, and thankyou for the info on the front panel again, looks like I'll be opening a can of worms with that dept, I'll have a rethink!
Any ideas how you're supposed to replace the badge itself if you can't remove the panel?

Whatever route you go to aquire more HP, you should know that the transaxle that came stock with your car is not adequate for ANY power increase whatsoever. Sell it early on during your project while it is still in working order and purchase an S2 or 951 transaxle to handle your newfound power.

I did look at the ls1 conversion from renegade hybrids but that would've cost too much. This is my everyday car too and most of their bits wouldn't fit my right hand drive car.
Yes I've heard about the weak box issues. That is something I wanted to correct as mines whining anyways.

I suppose there would be some fitment issues with the LS1, but if you are looking for cheap to maintain and reliable power there really isn't any other way to go for the money you're already looking at.

It may be easier to custom fit a aftermarket front mount intercooloer. The 951/952 piece is nice, but you be able to find something better to suit your needs (perhaps water/air). This would help with not having to remove the header panel.
