Thanks guys. I'll probably just bite the bullet and get a generic Bosch for the $30 or so. I can't really justify buying an o-scope...

Update-Mike C.
I found a simplified test at the Tomco (manufacturer) site. Only a good multimeter is needed and a bit of interpretation and risk. Move down page a bit. I do not know if the reading on the meter with this test would satisfy the "responding sluggishly" symptom. http://www.tomco-inc.com/Tech_Tips/ttt1.pdf

Thanks John. The photo doesn't really make clear the connections but I'd assume one lead is connected to the (single) wire and the other is clamped to the sensor body as ground. They didn't quite finish the sentence "If you get a reading above 66 millivolts, and the reading quickly changes with the movement of the flame over the tip, the sensor..." I think this should finish "the sensor is good".
