Default Fuel smell outside of the car, yet no leaks nor smell on the inside

I have been tackling this issue from the week it started (2 weeks ago) and now that I'm back from SF I can finally tackle this issue. The garage that I parked the car in smells like gas. I started it up this morning to check for leaks under the hood again (I did this before I left) and could not find any leakage coming from the fuel rail, lines, fuel pressure regulator, damper, and injectors. There is no fuel leakage on the ground. I guess that's a good thing, but what the hell is causing this strong smell outside of the car and not inside. BTW the car has a quarter tank of gas in it.

And yes I've searched....

my fuel pump was leaking onto the black tray that covers it, and being soaked up by the foam underneath it. I too could not find the leak until I finaly swaw a drip on the ground. May be a good place to look for you. My pump was leaking at the pinch on the pump housing.

Mine is currently leaking from the same spot. Smells like gas inside the garage, but not inside the car.

Not looking forward to $300 for a new pump.

Is it actually the pump leaking or the fittings/line?

Check the j-line from the fuel filter to the main sending line... mine was rotted out pretty bad.

Does it happen at a certain tank level?

Is the filler cap oring in good shape?

sorry to dig up an ancient thread, but I'm worried that I may have a similar problem. My question is would a fuel pump problem like this also manifest itself as low fuel pressure or something else?

Thanks
