Default Very rough idle after DIY headgasket swap

I had an oil leak that was really bad so I changed all my gaskets and seals. now the car leaks nothing except for a fuel line on the tank I need to go pickup monday.

The problem is it running very very poorly. So bad I took off the timing belt to check that it was timed right.

I think the vacuum hoses may be incorrect but I doubt it would make this much of a difference. I've spent a few days trying to get it right using guides and the workshop manuals but after everything is said and done there is never anyplace to tee the line into the firewall.

for reference the car is a 924s

you would be surprised how badly a car will run without the vacuum lines hooked up correctly. the 924 isnt as sensitive as some cars... but i could see it causing a crappy idle.

have you tried other things like a compression test? if your not getting enough compression it will run like junk, or not at all.

Did you replace the wires/cap/rotor? Moving around old-*** wires can make them crack up inside and they won't work too well anymore. And the cap/rotor should be ok to reuse but just good to replace in general when doing everything else.

Vacuum is a good possibility, especially after moving old-*** brittle tubes and hoses.

Make sure you connected all the sensors and stuff.

If you fuel line is leaking, this could be causing a drop in fuel pressure, which could cause poor idle. Replace that leaking line before trying anything else.

thats another good point. the fuel pump is in the tank, so any leaks will drop fuel pressure.
