Default Speedometer trouble

I have a 1986 944 and the speedometer isn't working. I swapped out the sender unit, but that didn't fix it. What else could be the problem?

1) Drive shaft for the sender unit.
Remove sensor, remove the Alu hex adapter to the tranny and find a nylon shaft.
Lift it and check the teeth.
2) corroded connector on the sender unit.
