Default need help with brake fluid leak.

I have been a long time lurker, many years infact. ussually find what im looking for so no need to post. Thanks to all of you. I have searched through hundred's of threads. Found some info but did not go into much detail as to my specific problem. I have an 87' 924s, and last night I engaged the clutch and it stayed engaged. About 2 years ago I had the slave and master cylinder done because of this same problem. The thing is, I have brake fluid leaking out of the clutch bellhousing hole and onto the starter. Talked over the phone with the mechanic and he said its the slave cylinder again. Is it normal for this part to last 17 years from the factory, and then need replacing every 3 or so years?? doesnt make sense to me. I am hoping that its just a hose or cracked line. The carpet does not appear wet underneath the clutch. Mechanic says itll cost 170 including the part. I am also thinking about attempting this myself but am a little hesitant due to my lack of knowlege. I appologize for the long post, and know this has been posted several times, i just needed a little more specific answers. thank you all very much.

They probably installed a rebuilt slave or rebuilt the slave and it has failed.

Welcome to RL! I can't believe nobody took that user name until now.

If a new slave cylinder is installed, and it is installed properly and carefully, and then bled properly and carefully, then it should last another 17 years.

Then again it could also fail in 3 years...

Well did they replace the pipe going from the slave up to the master cylinder??? I just replaced all 3 of mine and that pipe was pretty rust on the outside. So it could be if they replaced the master and slave, now the weak link, the connecting pipe, is going out.
