Doing it at the shop helped. I seem to remember swivel-head sockets helping a lot in swapping the steering system.

You need to get a brother that's a mechanic with lots of fun tools!

What is better is having a father who is a retired auto tech used to working on German cars. All the right tools, No place to use them now means I love hand me downs. Plus plenty of knowledge in how the pesky Germans like to do things.

I do everything in my driveway or tiny one car uninsulated garage. It is not fun to work out there all winter in the cold rain. Not a lot of room to work, but I get a LOT done here in my minimalist fashion.

Right now the 951 is in pieces but on 4 wheels in the garage. There is a spare engine on the ground from the blue parts car awaiting my decision on what to do with it (scratched cylinders - 951 buildup?). In the driveway is the track car on front jack stands while I do this work. Next I'll put the rack in the turbo and finish that thing up so I can drive it. The track car then comes in for torsion bars and pulling the motor for rod bearings.

It's a busy place. Hoping to buy another house next summer. This one will have a bigger garage with room for a lift... getting sick of rolling around on the cold ground. I already chipped my elbow doing that.
