Default Timing Belt Tensioner...

Hey guys,

I have an 84 Porsche 944, so, as I understand it my 944 does NOT have a tensioner built in. I know the newer Porsches do. Is it very difficult to retro-fit the tensioner from the newer 2.5s into the older 2.5? I seem to recall a thread a while back where someone mentioned that it bolts on with THREE bolts and that maybe the old block did not have the studs already installed. I can't find that thread (doesn't come up in the searches I've been doing).

Any ideas? I'm changing out my belt, and I would much rather install a tensioner to solve this problem than have to retention it every 3k miles...

Thanks!

Trust me when i say the spring tensioner is not worth the effort. Its not a 'dynamic' tensioner, meaning it does not constantly adjust the belt tension (only the 968 had this with a hydraulic type tensioner). It gets you close to the required belt tension, but usually still out of spec. You still MUST use a tensioning tool to verify. I find it will consistently not put enough tension on the belt by itself. You still have to retension at the same mileage intervals as with the regular eccentric type roller. Honestly there is not much advantage to retro fitting it.
