Question Low Temperature Gauge

It has been cool here in VT lately. But it seems like my 1989 944 is not warming up as fast as it used to. My Temp gauge barely moves up after a 15 minute county highway drive to work.

I do get heat in the car if I turn the inside climate control up past 27C.

Car runs fine, just a low gauge. Does this sound familiar and should I be fixing anything?

STUCK OPEN T-Stat perhaps?

Thanks Jim

Could be stuck open, or missing LOL. Should be warming up a bit faster than that if u ask me. If you have an infared lazer thermometer, youc an use that to see if it's stuck open by comparing temps b4 and after the t-stat.

air in the system can do that.... ask me how i know......

does it seem a little too hot in the summer? If so, it's probably air. But if it's fine in the summer I would guess Tstat.

To answer your questions:

It is downhill, about 500' over 9 miles. I did notice last night on the drive up hill, the gauge did go a little higher, then it did inthe morning. About 1/2 way to the 1st mark.

I think I changed the T- stat 6 years ago when I also changed the Temp Fan Switch in the radiator. At that time I flushed, filled and bled the air out of the sytem. But more air could have gotten in there by now. IIt has been probably 10,000 miles since then.

I did not notice the gauge getting too hot in the summer. But I am never in traffic and it is rarely over 85 degrees, also my AC has not worked for 7 years. Which does not bother me as I usually have the sunroof off.

I don't have an infrared Temp sensor, but it sounds like a Must Have, tool for my shop.

Thanks Jim

i've got a 7 mi downhill run, dropping over 100ft and every car we have/had shows lower water temp going down the hill but the gage runs in the normal position coming back up the hill in 4th gear, 3k about 60mph.

on the downhill run i'm in 5th about, 2400 doing 60.
