When I track my 944 S2, the car will pop out of 2nd gear upon hard braking.
I brought it to my mechanic who replaced the 2nd gear syncro. Taking the car back to the track again, the car is still doing it.
When I brought it back to the mechanic, he inspected all motor and transmission mounts and said all was good. He took the car out for a 20 minute ride and could not duplicate the problem.
I know that if I bring the car to the track I will have the problem again.

Any suggestions on what to check while it is still in the shop?

funny..someone at the NY/NJ get2gether was talking about this same problem...I think they were refering to a spring being worn out in the shifter mechanism...have you looked at the schematics?

What schematics are you referring to? Where is the spring that you are referring to?

interesting the 996 Turbo has a bad wrap for this to. Don't tell e , it does it when decelerating in 2nd right ? when you are using the downshifting to slow the car ? this usually ahas the bigest strain on the gearbox and shifter.

don't know "what spring" it was...it was a conversation I heard while standing with a bunch of folks talking about our cars...maybe start with a peek at the shop manuals to see what the mechanism looks like? That's what I meant by schematics.

Thanx. I do have a shop manual and will look for any springs in the shifter mechanism.
