There is one at a dealership that is a 1988 944 regular 2.5L SOHC. It is white with red interior. The body looks reall nice with little scraches and a few road chips. The milage is 110,000 and starts and idles great. Milage is still works made sure i check that. The interior looks great, looks like new carpet and the seats have no rips or anything. The dash a very small cracks but has a dash mat on it. The bad: I guess there is an aftermarket alarm that has a key on the side of the diver door and have no idea who did it but looks professional. Looks like some ricer owned it since te speakers in the door are aftermarket and hit the dash on the side tearing it up a little. It has an aftermarket bankets stero. The engin compartment looks great nd the plastic bottles look white. There was some service records but i did not see timing belt, water pump or anything. Well the asking price is 3300 as is since it is a repo. I am going to check the power steering one more time to make sure it is not leaking. Anything else i can check and how can i check the clutch as well. Also i notice that the shifter has ALOT of play and i know it could be the shifter and not the tranny. The alarm system was a factory option on the 944's so the key beside the drivers door is original, which means that is not The Bad. Also if you have a lot of play in the shifter it is likely the linkage which is prone to coming loose, you just need to tighen a little screw, maybe throw some loctite on it, other than that if the engine isnt leaking it seems like a good deal, just try and find reciepts for some belt replacements, cause they need to be replaced if they havent been already

I think it sounds like a good buy. The alarm you see is from the factory, but I doubt the key is available since it's a repo. If you wanted to check the clutch there's a write up on Clarks Garage, you’ll need to get under the car though. The shifter in my car is loose as are the shifters in many of these cars, not too expensive to fix, but IIRC it's time consuming.

I haven’t dealt w/ repos, so I don’t know what to look for in that department, if anything.

Yes i know about the timing belt and water pump could not find recipts but will still look for them. The dealership is so stupid they lost all the keys to the car and are making new one and i made sure i was not going to be paying for them. the tires look great and have lots of tread. Just want to make sure the PS was not leaking since i know they do. I have done timing belts but just on my engine out of the car and do not know how difficult it will be doing it on th inside. Anything else i should check for?

Ya just make sure you arent paying for stuff you shouldn't be. I work for a dealership so if they lost the keys make sure they are paying for new ones. I have also seen tons of hack jobs on the 944's as far as stereos go. Personally I have installed some in mine, cause I am an audiophile, but its tasteful, its all custom built so it takes up as little space as possible, as well as blends in with the original vehicle. Try and find some shallow mount speakers to replace the aftermarket ones if your worried about them marking the dash when the door closes. Have you driven the car yet? Because that may reveal some problems as well, or invoke more questions for us lol

No 89's had the 2.7L and then they switched to 3.0L in the S2.

You will not be able to get a key to the alarm. It takes a different key than the ignition. Once it is lost, it is lost for good. Porsche will not make an alarm key.

There was a thread awhile back about taking the alarm cylinder out through the vent in the driver's door and having it keyed to match the ignition key. You should be able to find it using the Rennlist search function.

sounds like a decent price, but make sure about getting the keys (in writing, or having the keys in your hand)... not that you shouldn't trust a used car dealership or anything like that

The red interior would be a deal-breaker for me

They had a key made for the alarm and it works. Do not see why it would be harder then the ignition and the doors. Thanks

My alarm key uses the same blank as the ignition.. Better make sure the clutch is good at that price.. Any kind of warranty?

How can i test the clutch i did drive it but it did not feel as stiff as my other. Can i get under the car and see if it is good? They called a guy that has a machine to recut keys by inserting that thing into the key hole. They did that for all three, but that was expensive and i told them i was not going to pay for that. Thanks

There's a clutch inspection hole, left side. Maybe someone has a picture handy? I think you might be able to find a pic at www.clarks-garage.com or www.arnnworx.com - may be in the "find TDC" areas of the belt-changing topics.
