Popping noise and now the car wont start
#16
Well I just went back to mess around with the car. It looks like at some point someone hacked up the connector that goes to one of the ref sensors. It looks like there are 3 wires with female connectors that go in to the connector for the reference sensor. This is all on the harness side. Too bad its not on the sensor side of the connection. I guess when its light out Im going to take it apart, clean everything and hope for the best.
How difficult is it to replace this portion of the harness? Ill probably pay someone as I loathe electrical work.

If you DO need to replace the ref sensor harness it is REALLY easy.
I bought mine from lindsey racing and it took me 2 hours only because it took me 1 1/2 hours to get the old wires out of the old DME plug. LOL
The reason I say Ref sensors is because one time I was leaving the mall after 45 minutes of normal driving, and I hear a loud POP when taking off from a light.
Now I COULD start the car and keep it running but if I went over 20 mph I would hear POP and the car would die.
What had happened was a bolt that holds the ref sensor housing to the engine had backed out, and the sensors had fallen onto the flywheel.
Got the car towed home.
I bought used sensors and a new bolt, but no go. So I bought a used 86 DME and while waiting for it to get here I replaced the harness with the Lindsey gear. After the harness was replaced, the car started right up and ran great!
I still have the DME sitting in my shop.

Yeah, Im leaning towards the harness as well considering someone has hacked it up. Ive found other references to the lindsey harness, but I cant find it on their site, do you have a link?
edit-nevermind I found it... under harness replacement ... duh...
