Anyone ever use anything like this? An air compressor and hose powered spray gun?

http://www2.northerntool.com/product-1/11991.htm

Probably not as effective as steam but I sure as hell do not have room for one of those cleaners in my 1 car garage.

As for lugnuts, I got alloy ones from vertex cheapest, but now I run all ebay steel lugnuts on both cars. Cheapest and most durable, though not as pretty I guess.

Nice cleanup job. I was always told to remove the tire completely if you unbolt any 2 or 3 piece wheel due to the tire bead causing uneven stress on the rim. I know that CCW tightens the center section on a jig where roundness can be adjusted for during the process. I'm not saying I'm right but it might be something to consider before you just bolt them up again and have an issue with balance or out of roundness.

I'd have to agree with you Steve... I started trolling the 993 section *cough* to try to find out what size bolts those were and read several posts about folks being real skittish about taking the rims apart.

I can't seem to navigate back to the diagram I was looking at with the part number. I'll keep trying.

Here's some pics of the bolts. They look to be 30mm, sleeved, hex head. The nuts are fine.

Thanks for the input. I don't have the equipment to pull the tire and I didn't feel like waiting. I did let all the air out of the tires. Maybe I'll have a tire guy put the bolts back when they get balanced. I'm just afraid they're gonna scratch the hell out of them.

Looks more like an M6x25 to me... for flush, you don't measure end to end... researching...

Can you measure the actual length from the bottom of the cap to the end of the bolt?

Also, was it an M6 or M8 hex?

What size metric driver did you stick in to get the nuts off the back - or none at all?

Go to www.mcmaster.com and put this part number in for giggles: 91239A154

You can buy a 100 pack of M4x25 black oxide 10.9 grade bolts for $11.30 + shipping.

If you want blue, steel, stainless steel, pick it, etc.

Thus, find the size you need and order two boxes and have at it...

For that matter, enter "metric allen bolts" in search and grab a beer.

Avoid the black oxide finish. Go with high strength stainless steel or cadmium plated hardware. If you do choose SS be sure it's not a precipitation hardened alloy like 17-4 PH as road salts can cause stress cracking and brittle failure. The black oxide layer will corrode very quickly and any pitting or metal loss will take place on the aluminum at the interface where they are bolted up. The black oxide surface treatment isn't corrosion resistant at all and wheels see some the most severe service, especially back East.

Not the socket on the back, but did you use an allen driver for holding the bolt head?
