Default THERMO VALVE

Why does my 88 944 have this thermo valve (part # 92811012801)? I am having a real hard time getting the car to run right. I was checking for a vacume leak and this part showed up as leaking. I cant find it any where on 944 diagrams. I searched the part # on Pelican and it showed up as special order.I siimply by pased it and the vacume leak seams to be cured. car still not running right though.

Any idea what it does. The actual part has a vacume leak and it is no londer available. For now I by passed it and it seams to be running the same with out it but I'm sure it does something. I took it our and hooked it up to a vacume gage and the top seal just hised air.

Once the coolant is up to temp, that thermo valve opens and allows vacuum to open the fuel vapor purge valve which sucks fuel vapor from the fuel vapor purge system into the intake to be burned off. Bypassing that valve shouldn't have any negative effect on how your car runs. Since all my fuel vapor purge system has been removed, I simply removed the vac lines that run to that valve with no ill effects.

Just make sure it's not leaking air into your cooling system. A coolant system pressure tester will let you know if the coolant seal on that thermo valve is breached. If no coolant leaks, then no air is getting in, and you're good to go.

Thanks for the info. The bottom of the plug is solid like a temp sender so no leak should happen. One line went to this diaphram thing buy the fuse box (I'm asuming thats thepurge system valve) and the other end went to the side of the throttle boddy. I simply ran a vacume line directly from the diaphram to the throttle boddy.

I think Rennbay has those for sale. They are still available and most certainly if you give the part # to the dealership they can come up with something.
