Default Smoke coming from Flywheel area

Okay, I deserve to be flamed for letting my 1991 944S2 be a garage queen for 2 years. yes, it was sitting undriven and I never started it for that period.

I need to move the car, so I drained the gas and oil. Changed the oil filter and put a table spoon of oil in each cylinder.

New battery installed too.

The engine, after getting the fuel primed, started and sounded fine and hit 1000rpms no problem.

But almost immeadiately, white smoke came from the fly wheel area in the back of the engine where the fly wheel is. I saw it coming out of the view ports over the flywheel.

I am assuming it tried out? Can I just inject some oil in the view ports? How can I get it running again?

I would rather drive it to the Porsche mechanic than tow it as I have to have the car moved from its current spot by Sunday.

thanks!

Don't put oil on the flywheel. The clutch is there and will absorb oil and slip. Then it is time for a new clutch although it may be already.

Can you describe what the smoke smelled like?

It is probably your rear main which dried out. Smoke from clutch is usually leaking RMS -very likely after sitting 2 years.
The seal will be leaking from the top half of the circle, if you remove the flywheel.

I ended up getting towed to Redmond European in the Seattle/Redmond area.

I drove it enough to to get it up on the tow truck.

Both the tow truck driver and the owner of RE thought it was oil burning on the exhaust leaking through dried out gaskets.

So, anyway, I was hoping to drive it to the shop, not tow it, but the towing was only about $30 over my Roadside Assistance. So, that was a lot cheaper than damage from seals blowing/etc.

Thanks for the replies!
