Default Loss of oil pressure - sensor?

My girlfriend experienced no oil pressure on her 89 951 a week ago. We had problems with the timing belt traking forward on the gears, so we guessed the problem were related.

The problem with the timing belt was that we had put the drive gear on the crank on backwards! There was however no sign on the washer from the oil pump drive spinning on it. We have pu everything back together today, the new belt is tracking true and nothing seems to be wrong with the oil pump drive.

But still there are no oil pressure! So it seems the two problems were not related.

We have now checked the owner's manual, and there is a oil pressure warning lamp in addition to the meter, this lamp has never functioned as long as we have owned the car. We are now really considering either the instrument or the sensor. I will try to remove the sensor tomorrow and test it with air pressure, and also turn the engine over to see if oil comes out from where the sensor was placed.

I know the usual problems with no oil pressure is:
1 Oil pump drive (confirmed working - or at least we think so)
2 Loss of prime in the pump
3 Broken oil pick-up tube

Is it really possible to loose prime after only 14 days? Seems unlikely to me...

Any chance you got that washer with the beveled edge on backwards when you flipped the cam drive gear over? That will cause loss of pressure every time.

If you mean the washer closes to the bolt head, I am sure we put that the correct way.

I copied this question from another thread, hoping to trigger more responses, but I will continue the saga in the old thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/291034-timing-belt-not-tracking-true.html

Thank you!
