Default Car dies after first cold start, then fine thereafter

Had this start last week, not 100% sure what could be the cause. Car sits maybe two + days. I try to start it and it fires, but bogs down and dies. Restart and it idles a bit rough for a second or two and then idles perfectly. Starts fine when the car is warm and on the few occasions i tried it fires right up after sitting overnight.

Was thinking maybe a leaking injector? I did notice on one occasion the exhaust stunk of fuel after the car started up.

Could be a leaking fuel check valve.. so it just doesn't have good fuel pressure until it builds it up

+1

or

dying battery. Battery may seem like it cranks ok, but not enough juice afterwards until you've given it a little charge.

Had the same problem on my Jeep and new battery fixed it (after chasing the fuel pump check valve).

Thats a possibility. It has gotten a bit cooler out and the lightweight battery i have hates the cold.

Anyway to test that check valve? Its right after the fuel pump right?

correct but a bad check valve is over rated as the problem child for hard starting.

i just changed the fuel filter, didn't use clamps so everything drained out and turning the key to on, not right into start mode, was enough to pressurize the empty fuel lines and the car started on the 1st try and idled fine.
