I did it several years ago but sorry no pics. When you say early car I assume you mean the fuel lines come up on the left side of the brake booster (when facing the engine from front of car). Unfortunately, my memory leaves much to be desired - but I don't think I had to remove anything to get enough room. Essentially, using a die grinder with a cut off wheel (sort of like an air powered dremel tool) I carefully cut through the outer portion of the swaged fitting. I did have to pull them away from the firewall to get enough room to cut. You want to cut an eighth inch or so above where the swage starts and be vary careful not to cut too deep or you'll ruin the barbed end underneath. I believe I also cut through it axially so I cound pry it apart and remove it. Then you can pull off the rubber hose and expose the barbed line end which will accept a new hose and screw clamps to seal it up. As I recall, I disconnected the line at the fuel filter and blew it out with compressed air to avoid ignition... Good luck.

PITA!!!! I did mine, I tried the stainless from Lindsey with an adapter from a Hydraulics supply house. It worked for awhile but then I had to do some work near the intake manifold and I disturbed the lines and couldn't get them to work again, I wound up getting some fuel line from FLAPS and clamping them on. I'll be removing the engine next year sometime to put in a rebuilt, I'll try again with the engine out.
Good luck
