Can a 924 tach be put in a 924S?
Can a tach from a '77 924 be put in a 924S? I know the wiring is different: the 924 tach only has three wires and the S tach has about eight according to the FSM. But if the extra wires are for the upshift indicator or other useless crap, I'd have no problem with deleting them. Thanks in advance.

Yes it can be done, you just need to make three jumper wires. One end with male spades and the other with female spades. There are three wires, black, green and brown if i remember. I forget where they go exactly on the gauge but you can play around with it to make it work. I do remember the black wire goes to the 12+ on the gauge. From there you have the signal wire and the gauge ground.

Thanks Duck. I was hoping it was as simple as that. I've been wanting to move the tach to the center of the gauge pod for a while, but then I found a tach in a box of parts from my old 924 that had the redline at the 12 o'clock position. That would be easier to see in your peripheral(sp?) vision or at a glance. Plus, it measures in UPM instead of RPM. That's uber-German and probably more accurate, right?

Yep, that's the one.
I just went out and popped the speedo and tach out of the gauge pod, and holy crap, you've got to be some kind of contortionist to get a hand up behind there to unscrew the speedo cable.
