Default Position Sensor Confirmation

ok, please don't shout at me, i did search but need some confirmation. what i learned was:

1. early 80's bmw 5-series sensors are a direct replacement for the 944 sensors. the only difference is the wire lengths which are longer on the bmw and therefore must be tied back in the 944 loom.

2. the sensors on the 944 are the same even though they measure different signals.

3. there are two bmw part #'s for the early 80's 5-series, #12.14.1708.618.M14 and #12.14.1710.668.M85

pelican quote the following prices:
944 sensor #944-606-115-00-M14 $184.25 each
bmw sensor #12.14.1708.618.M14 $97.00 each
bmw sensor #12.14.1710.668.M85 $45.25 each

quite a difference in price so just want to clarify, do i just buy two of the cheapest ones or am i missing something?

thanks, g

Not sure if you saw this a week ago but the cross reference info is accurate.

thank you kuhl, saw the post but it gave two refs for the bmw sensors for the same 5-series (to 85), just wanted to confirm that the cheaper one was ok. couldn't quite figure it all out as the 5-series only has one sensor fitted, so all i can presume is that an alternative part# was issued, at a later date, that was a cheaper alternative. thanks again
