Default AC expansion Valve

Guys,
Should the expansion valve be noisy? i mean i keep hearing a hissing noise whenever it works, is that normal?

PS: I run an after market one, could be different from the one Porsche uses (in terms of coil) and i guess it is faulty.

Yes, you'll hear some noise. High pressure liquid refrigerant is converting to a low pressure gas so it’ll sound like an air leak.

Not had this problem on a Porsche but this happened on a new one I put in a 1995 Honda Accord. The new one squealed everytime the A/C started up. I took it back apart and put a genuine Honda one in and have not had the problem since. Sent the first one back as faulty.

That is what i am hearing, but i never encountered this on my NA, maybe a very light sound, but mine is noticable.

I am just concerned over this, since the local shop used what fits, the coil end is pretty much unknown.....

If the AC works, and you can live with the noise, don't worry about it. A sharp edge inside the valve can cause the sound (think whistling). I'm assuming the sound your hearing is similar to the newer FR valve's on the accumulator systems when the system equalizes after shut-off.

Yeah, guess it's normal, but just wanted to be sure about this.....
