Default Exhaust welding off the car?

I have my exhaust off the car, as I put a different exhaust on to pass inspection.

I want to have the gutted cat that is on the pipe that is not installed the car, cut off and replaced with straight pipe, and I want the muffler replaced with my new borla.

Will a good auto shop be able to do this off the car by clamping each end so it can't move, cutting out the muffler/cat and welding in the new piece? Or will I have to put this exhaust back on, then bring it to someone to do it while it is on the car?

I called one shop and they said they will only do it while it is on the car.

I also will have the problem of pretending it is a race car that I need the cat cut off and replaced with straight pipe, as i assume some shops won't even do that for me.

Anyone have any advice, or experience? I have welding resources but not the skills.

Default

Tack weld what you want on it and take it to a non-muffler shop that does industrial welding and have them finish the job.
