Default Planning for Vacuum Line Replacement

I'm planning to replace my vacuum lines since they're old and I'm trying to eliminate rough idle. I haven't ever replaced the vacuum lines and Y's on a 944 so I'm trying to figure out what is required. I'm using Clark's Garage excellent vacuum line schematic to start with, but what about parts?

Can I use standard vacuum lines from my favorite local parts store or do I need any special lines (like one end being larger diameter than the other)?

Thanks,
Paul

Order the vacume line kit from lindsey its really good quality silicon hose so it wont harden or crack like rubber or plastic hose. Heres the link:

There are also large vac lines under your intake. I just replaced mine a few weeks ago. I ordered all mine from pelican parts. To replace all you will need to pull the intake to get to them.

Finally, do yourself a favor and use the real parts. I tried to use the generic parts from the local store and I just ended up doing the job twice. Just do it right the first time.

P.S. If you have the intake off you should replace those AOS seals. Its an easy job with the intake out of the way.

Where do you get the OAS seals? And how hard of a job is it to switch them out?

Not hard at all, The AOS is the black thing that you put the oil into for those who didnt know.
There are 3 bolts the hold it on the block. remove them and give the aos a little tug. the seals replace very easily. just remove old and install new with a little coating of oil.
If the seals go bad It can cause a vacume leak and allow oil into the intake.

here are the P-numbers for the upper and lower seals. I got mne from pelican parts.

upper: 999-701-613-40-M104

lower: 999-701-661-40-M100

Does the Lindsey kit include the large vac lines? Looking at the link you gave me, they show baggies with thin lines only and no large dia hose.

Thanks,
Paul

No only the small stuff. You have to order the large ones individually from pelican parts.

Do a reseal on the throttle body while your in there. The orings on the shaft have turned to plastic. I got mine from Bruce Arnn but I think Pelican or Paragon has it; $20.

+1 on lindseys kit and ease of install
+1 on rebuilding throttle body

Both helped my 951 run much much better. This job can turn into a "while I'm in there" though so just do these small things or it can spiral into an engine rebuild.

Man it seems like everybody's doin' this right about now...as we speak I've got my intake manifold off and I'm waiting for a replacement hose goin' from the ICV to the hardpipe.

Hopefully tomorrow work will resume...

FWIW Lindsey's kit is solid and is exactly what I was hoping for. As you remove stuff, check the tightness of all the hoses and whatnot. I'm still amazed that basically every single hose in my engine bay was loose...sigh.

Where is the upper seal located on the AOS? I'm looking at the AOS schematic and all I see is the lower ones that're a 20x5 unit. Is the upper one by the filler cap?

Interesting, I'll be pulling the intake next weekend to do a venturi delete and re-do the vacuum hoses as well! Looks like a regular vacuum-fest here at Rennlist, or is that a suck-fest?

Anyway, are there any other little "while you are in there" projects that anyone can think of, besides the OAS seals, that I should look at while the intake is off?

Thanks for all the great replies and keep the ideas coming. I'm looking at expanding my vacuum hose replacement project into a while-I'm-in-there-I-might-as-well-replace-something-else affair.

Will I need any special hose clamps, esp for the large dia hoses?
