Default Painting brakes

Is it possible to paint the ol' brakes a pretty shade of red and stick some decals on 'em?

If so, is it a big, involved, complicated type process, or easily doable? Do I have to disassemble the brake assemblies?

Never done it on a 944 but you can get caliper paint just about anywhere. I doubt stickers would work well (too much heat), Just use a brusth to do the detail work in a diffrent color. I would take the calipers apart and do a rebuild on them while they are out. You will need to clean them really well to make shure the paint sticks nicely.

I've used cheap Rustoleum for years with a brush and it's never changed color from the heat. I've never done the decal route though but I bet it wouldn't last long after a few laps of heavy braking.

Much easier to spray then hand paint, at least in my experience.

Whoops, I actually didn't realize there was embossed Porsche lettering on there ... I guess mine are so grimy the lettering is barely visible!

Nice to know it's not a huge deal ... I'd love to make it part of a general campaign of touching-up a lot of surfaces, including the intake manifold, cam cover and whatnot.

I used duplicolor high temp gloss engine spray on several sets with no problems. My audi calipers have over 3 years on them and they still look fine.

Not all have the embossed lettering. I believe that they sell the stickers for the calipers though.

Trubo and S2 cars have different brakes with lettering. I have a kit to paint mine, I just haven't done it yet. Just remember to clean them really good.

unless you have a turbo or an s2 you dont have raised lettering.

And I don't -- it's an NA.

That's a relief, I was beginning to wonder if I was blind for not noticing the raised letters.

Use high temp paint or your paint will burn off pretty soon assuming you use your brakes hard (track day, spirited driving).

I'll definitely use high temp paint.

jtsporsche, thanks for the tidbit ... nice to know I don't have to disassemble the brakes.
