Default Cooling Fan Troubles

The Cooling Fans on my 89 944s2 are cycling between fast and slow every 5 seconds. I checked the Thermofan Switch as per Craig's Garage Instructions, and it seemed there was a problem with the Relay, so I purchased a new Fan Relay. Its still doing the same thing. Anyone have a similar problem? Any Ideas?

Check out the section on COOLING SYSTEM at http://www.clarks-garage.com/ just go through the diagnostics etc and you should isolate the problem. Also, check the GROUNDS for the car - easy to do and often the cause of a lot of mysterious electrical maladies, these cars are getting on in age and corrosion, loose grounds, etc are common. good luck.

Kyle.
I tried to PM you back, but it says you have PMs blocked. Here is my reply.

Yeah, I fixed them. there are 2 large ceramic resistors (for slow fan speed) attached to the firewall, under the thin plastic cover behind the battery. They are up high, so you have to remove the cover to see them. The Problem comes from the female slip terminal connections getting to hot, corroding, and burning the wire. Cutting the wire back a bit, and replacing the connectors did the trick for me. My car is a 1989 S2. I have read that the Resistors are located in a different place on earlier cars (not sure about year of change). They stated that the Resistors are inside the car above the glove box, and the glove box must be removed for access (If memory serves). If you need anything else, pictures ect. let me know.

Best of luck
Jeff
