I've seen someone on 928 that sells a gas cap repair kit.

Pelican parts knows these cars (Parts heaven too) so you may want to call either up and explain your problem. Pelican's website has alot of pics and help.

To answer the last question, the cap is indeed supposed to freewheel when you lock it.

I'm sure your local locksmith could bang it out in a jiffy. They can also key blank tumblers for your Kragen (likely Stant) cap to match your ignition. Not to mention you'd spend a little dough at the local mom and pop.

Man... I'm gonna fear getting gas now that you brought this up. I better be gentile with mine!

I know how to code locks, just afraid to pry too hard on the plastic cap. :-)

...the beauty of 20 year old plastic...my sunvisor clip fell off the other day into my lap whilest driving. scared the **** outta me!

How many wafers/pins are actually in the gas cap lock?

What I did is bought a new cap and it came without the cylinder. So I cut the old cap with a saw, at the lock cylinder, removed the cylinder, inserted the old cylinder into the new cap. It snapped right in to place and I was good to go.

That is wall well and good, but I just want remove the lock cyl. and recode it and put it back.
