Feeler Thread? for parts car...
So, I have a 1987 944 5-Speed. Has roughly 111,000 miles. Slate Gray Metallica on Burgandy Interior. Engine is salvageable but beyond my capabilities. Car spun a bearing at start-up a few weeks ago; Zero oil pressure, rod knock, no metal in oil pan that I could tell.
The feeler is:
If I can get enough people to buy parts off of it, I'll part it out.
If not, then it will sit in my garage/driveway until proper funds are available (which could accumulate to over a year) to refresh the engine, or... I dunno.
How about it?

Thats what I really want to do...
But I can use the money right about now and free time is almost non-existant. If enough people want enough parts for relatively cheap then I'd part it, as long as its almost gone in 3 months.
I'm putting anything usefull (or not) for sale off this thing. Hell, if the part is small enough (like less than 8 oz.) I can get free shipping (mainly for those folk looking for small interior parts or random nuts and bolts).

Parting out is not as easy as it sounds, for the people that do it on a regular basis, it's a diff story.
Why not get a GTG together for the repairs?

never thought about a GTG.
But even if/when I fix it, I'm just gonna sell it anyway. I don't want to have a bunch of guys come over and help with something I'm not gonna keep...
Unless that person(s) wanted to buy it or know someone who will... once it's fixed of course.

How close is Boyertown to Mechanicsburg? I'm stuck for the next two months, but I might be able to held a hand starting in October, and my fiancee's family is in Mechanicsburg. Never did an engine in one of these, tho.

Three Wheelin'
I'm in Doylestown about an hour and a bit away. If you can get some stuff together (parts, place to work, etc) I can probably lend a hand as well.
I'd always rather see one of these back on the road than in parts - unless they're parts I need.

Its much more difficult to part a car than to replace rod bearings (assuming nothing else is bad since there are no metal shavings). Sell the car as a project to someone may be better than selling the parts + time spent pulling parts + mess + storage space (a car takes 3 times the space when taken apart).

FIX IT!!! All you'd need to do is raise the front, support the engine from above. You can rent/borrow and engine hoist to support it. Pull the wheels, seperate the outer tie rods, ball joints, then lower and remove the crossmember. Oil pan is right there, remove it, remove the crank cradle, replace the bearings, re-install. There are some other steps, but that should basically be it. Couple of days after work.

You guys motivated me to fix it. I got a PM from someone who might buy it as is. If the offer is right it might be sold. If not, I'm going to dig in!
Brian and Daryl, thanks for the helping hand offer. You are more than welcome to help once I get the parts. I have tools and a garage to work in. ONce I am 100% sure I am going to fix it I'll let you know. Food and Beverages would be on me, of course.
944kid, I might take you up on that.
Thank you everyone!
