Default MAF power wire - is direct connection to battery bad?

I spent a good 30min doing a beautiful job routing the power wire for my maf along the stock wiring harness, sticking in a stealthy fuse, connecting it up to the battery terminal, heatshrinking all the connections, etc. I then looked at the wiring diagram again and see that it says to connect it to a 12v that turns on/off with the car.

Will having the maf power connected directly to the battery cause it to drain the battery while the car isn't running, or can I leave the power wire connected up on the terminal?

What is the best wire to use for the 12v on/off power for the maf?

It needs to be on a switched power source. I've got mine hooked to the coil but on the late cars you have the fuse box handy with lots of options.
