Default Anyone have a Trailer Hitch?

...For Sale?

A local DE guy who hooked me up on a seat is giving me first crack on his old tire trailer for a nice price. I'd love the tow vehicle and full trailer, but with a wedding and house on the horizon, I gotta put that off for a while!

I see the Dalan model online and everywhere else... on ebay the cheapest I see is new for $197 + shipping. Looks decent though.

Anyone have any success with one of the "custom" DIY bolt on jobs I see for $80?

Thoughts and suggestions? I'd need it pretty soon!

I picked up a Reese Class III universal hitch at Lowes a while back for 119.00. Don't forget light wiring.

I just installed a bolt on one a couple days ago. I'll post some pics when I get home.

Here's what I did for my hitch. I wouldn't tow much more than a go-kart on a utility trailer with this setup though.

i got my hitch from JC whitney, it was $ 94, and a pretty simple install, a max tongue weight of 100 lb and tow capacity of 1000 lb...pretty lightweight..but it will do what i need

JustinL, that's exactly what I needed to see, thank you! I'm only looking at towing a tire trailer to and from a few track events. With a little balance work, i'm sure I can keep the tounge weight in check.

Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to get it to fit through my rear valence... Sounds like I job for Mr. Dremel tool!

Here's what I make for them. That was the first one they look better now I have the side brackets bent. It mounts over the bumper shock and has a brace that goes to the rear tie down studs. It weights about 23 lbs. and will handle all you want behind your 944. 125 plus shipping from 34108 pm if interested.

Why isn't anybody using the bolts that go into the side of the frame rails? Might be a little stronger than using the bumper shock bolts.

Zero10 that's where the brace attaches on mine. Its too far under the car to use as main mounting point. But it makes for nice triangular mounting in conjunction with the bumper shocks.

Just an update. I painted my hitch flat black and added a rear valance. I had a clearance problem with one of the bolts, so I had to mount the valance about 1cm lower than factory using spacers and drilling lower holes in the fender. I think it looks pretty good except for a gap that you can only see from the right angle.

The bolt I needed to clear:

The rear of the car pardon the dents

The gap under the fender:

FYI, I just installed this same hitch (those of you at the fest saw it on my car). Very happy with the purchase. Arrived 48hrs after ordering (2 days before the provided "ship date").

Install was rather straight forward, but a word of advice...check clearance to the left edge of the spare tire well before mounting...if I had mounted mine 1/16th of an inch to the right of where I did, install would've taken 5 minutes, not the 20 that it did.

Unit isn't very strong as it just mounts to the bumper and spare tire well. But, it is very lightweight, and I'd easily believe it's capable of it's rated figures (100lb hitch weight, 1000lb gross trailer weight). It's also a receiver-style hitch, so you can remove the ball when not in use.
