did you change the cam followers/lifters to the VW one? How did that work out?

I have an 87 944S that I'm rebuilding and most of the lifters are hard and I can't push them down with all my bodyweight and a couple of them can be pushed down (further than the hard ones) with the ease of my finger. They appear to hold oil, but from what I've read they shouldn't be all hard?

Would be great to hear from someone who tried them.
