Found a fellow making clear side markers and I bought 6 pairs. I've been stockpiling housings from parts cars as well.
Under close inspection I would say that these are better than the Turnclear lenses. They have the proper DOT letering on the front. I would say that the Turnclear light refractors are 45% correctly cast from a stock lense and these lenses that I picked up are 80% correct compared to a stock lense. I am referring to all the little square bumps on the backside of the lense and how crisp their pointy side is.
In the third pic you can see the mounted Turnclear lense next to the stock lense and my new lense.

The trouble is that the original lenses are often flawed, but the strong tint makes it near impossible to see. If you happen to get a flawed one to make your mold, the result will be a clear lens that shows every little spot that wasn't perfect on the amber one.
I just experienced this with my one of the front side marker lenses for the 944, and am currently working with my vendor to have them remade from a different original. I cannot promise 100% perfection in the refractors, but we do have some techniques we can employ to make our lenses look better than the originals.
Another important factor is what materials are used. My manufacturer uses the highest grade clear, non-yellowing material he can get. As of now, none of the lenses I have sold have shown any discoloration at all.
