Default Shift Linkage

I need to replace the linkage in my S2. There is so much play in it I couldn't get it inot gear at turn 1 at the Glen last week. Has anybody tried any aftermarket kits or has everyone used the oem parts? Any thoughts on a short shift kit?
Thanks
Kevin

Check the bolt that connects the main shift rod to the linkage on the transmission. This backed out on me a little bit a while back and made for horrible slop in the linkage. Tightened it up and added some locktite...and all is well in the world.

Default Shift Linkage

I run an aftermarket shifter assy. that is similar to the one that Paragon Products sells. Vehicle shifts much better and is "tighter" and very nice upgrade and will not be **** to wear like the oem shift lever assy. As to the 13mm bolt that attaches the shift rod to the transmission linkage, there should be a small hole that is drilled into the head of the bolt so that is can be safety wired into place. If there is not a hole just put the bolt in a vice or the like and drill a hole. Locktite will work but may be a bit difficult to remove the bolt for furture service.

are you talking about the slop in the linkage or the lever since the lever always wear where the linkage connects and makes it have alot of slot. Im guessing a new shift lever will help the problem

Thanks guys. I think most of the slop is from the pin on the side of the shifter being worn. I am going to check the bolt at the tranny as well. I appreciate the feedback.

Where did you purchase your aftermarket shifter assembly from?

I used some leftover sound deadening to backup the washer on the shifter assembly, shifting feels alot tighter now, but I dont know how long it will last.

I located this shifter assy that Kokeln offers (http://www.kokeln.com/short_shift_lever.php) and it is very comparable to what I run in my car. The adjustable bottom pivot allows you to fine tune either the factory linkage or the "short shift kits" that are offered. Mine has adjustable piviot as well as shift **** height and I love it, so much better than stock. Worth every penny!!!!!!

MOMO makes an adapter. Search the parts houses.
