Oh that makes sense, perhaps the metal takes up the slack from the worn white tab.
My white tab doesn't want to engage consistently, so I think I'm looking at a new turn signal assembly. I guess I could try disassembling it, but I hate it when you disassemble stuff like that and everything goes flying apart.
