Default how does this oil pump bolt come out? pic

This is kind of annoying me, looks like the only way to remove this oil pump bolt is to remove the lower balance shaft housing which is a lot more work for me to remove the power steering pump also and also I'd have to replace the lower balance shaft seals which I've already done.

non of the inustrucions in haynes or clarks garage say to remove teh lower balance shaft housing to remove the oil pump.

so am I missing something?

also one more question.

I broke this power steering hose, well bent it up real bad because I lowered the steering rack and crossmember with it still attached (didn't see it...... and clarks and haynes doesn't mention it).

anywayw someone said it was the power steering cooling hose. It goes to the twisting lines close to the radiator.

I called my porsche parts supplier and they said it was 120 buck! sounds crazy I think they meant for the whole power steering cooling line and not just this one section.

lol I don't really want to get into any more work right now like switching to manual steering. I already have enough trouble with the oil pan seal, oil pump reaseal and putting the timing belt and gears back together....lots of work.

I'm not too worried about that hose right now. I can just install it one everything else is back together.

I'm thinking more about how to get that stupid oil pump bolt out without removing the lower balance shaft housing but I guess I may have to.

To clarify, that metal hose that goes across the crossmember and then connects up to the seperate cooling hose section does cost the $120 or whatever. Damn expensive porsche lines...

The only way I was able to get the oil pump off was by removing the lower balance shaft housing. Its not that hard - only 4 bolts and then tapping it with a hammer to remove. You have to get it off to do the seal on it anyway, which I would assume you are doing since you already have the engine all torn apart.

You have to remove it. there is an oring on the back of it and the seal on the front so might as well remove it.

Take it off. The oil pump housing, internal threads and the block must be absolutely squeaky clean, or the loctite will not seal. If they are not clean, it will cause significant cursing and thoughts of suicide due to the new oil leaks.

Use some laquer thinner or electronic cleaner. Mineral spirits is not good enough.

I think we need a sample of the aforementioned cursing.

ok thanks I guess the damn lower balance shaft housing has to come off even though the seals are brand new.

didn't know the threads have to be squeeky clean as well.

I usually use brake cleaner in a can to clean stuff up as it works really well is that okay.

One thing I'm worried about is getting dust and garbage inside the engien so that's why I have not pulled the oil pan out yet as I have to wait another week or so until I can go and pick up my parts from the dealer.

is it okay to remove the oil pump until then? so I can at least clean it up until then and save a bit of time when the parts come in.

my porsche dealer says they have loctite 574 so that's good.
