On my S2, the stock tires were 205/55/16 front and 225/50/16. A while ago I replaced these w/ 17 inch 993 wheels (I think they are 7J and 9J) and had 205/50/17 front and 255/40/17 tires on these. Now the tires are about worn out. I am thinking of replacing the tires w/ 225/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear. The reason for selecting different size tires is to reduce understeering. Does the new tire size seem right to you guys?
Thanks,
Eric

Sounds right to me. I have the same set up as you do, and it understeers uncomfortably on fast/sharp turns. This is my street set up and I'm going to wait for my fronts to wear out before I go to the same tire set up you have in mind.
You can also fine tune the car a little more using the "Garage Shop Manual" section on Clarks garage http://www.clarks-garage.com/. Go to "suspension" and try your luck. Currently, I'm running slightly higher pressure on the front tires with less on the rear to correct the current understeer.
I use the stock sizes on the track and the handling difference and my confidence (more neutral) at speed is noticeable.
