Default Octane Question

I know..

But, I'm just thinking out loud, and was wondering if I'm on the right track.

If ..(theoretically).. I was running with no 02 sensor hooked up, and an FRWilk chip, would I really have no reason of running 89+ octane fuel?

I'm making an assumption that the reason he recommends 89 or greater for his chip because he probably runs the fuel maps leaner at points than stock.

No 02 sensor should cause me to run a bit more rich than ideal.

Meaning 87 would be more than adequate...

No?

(this is what a 6-7 hour per week commute will do to your thinking...)

in your turbo?

Anyway, I'm not contesting if it will run fine. I just did a tank of 87.. I just generally figure put 89 just to be safe, for a few extra bucks when i would drive like 150 miles a week was no big deal. Now that i"m driving more I was just considering dropping down and being cheap.

His original chips don't monitor O2 sensor input. Only recently has FR released a "Lamba friendly" chip.

Does that mean I don't need an 02 sensor period? As in it makes no difference towards the DME period?

This is the powerprom2 btw, for late dme's.

- Edit Just realized the site says the powerprom2 doesn't use the lambda sensor.. So why if I plug my 02 sensor in it causes it to run funny?
