Default How to swap seat rails

How do you take off the seat rails to change them? I want to use my 85.1 seats in my 85.5. *edit* better yet is it possible to swap the bottom of the rail where it bolts onto the floor?

there are either 4-5 screws (depending on the seat) that are connected to the seat, slide the rails down and up to access them and they should come off.

if they are electric fuggetit. the rails on the electric seat are somehow connected to the motor.

if you ask redlineman about using seat rails that lock on only one side you will get a lecture, and probably not use them.

are the holes in the floor different? I thought just the seatbelt hole was different/covered on the late cars.

The holes are all completely different. Early car only has 4 bolts securing the seat to the floor. Late car has 6 bolts securing the seat to floor. Also, theres no hole for the seatbelt in my 85.5.

My 85.1 seats are still nice, but the 85.5 seats are worn beyond belief(smells like $@#$ too.)

where are you located? I have a set of seats from my turbo. the drivers is not in the greatest shape but it is in one piece, the passenger is in excellent shape.

if i sell the turbo and the purchaser wants nice factory seats they can have the seats from my S2 which are in awesome shape. you get the idea.

I am putting the S2 up with pictures this weekend. and am probably putting both up on autotrader. whichever sells goes, if i have spare seats, you can have em cheap as long as i dont have to ship em.

I'm not familiar with the early cars but I swapped the rails from my 85.5 seat to one of my 87s seats last weekend. I did it because the rail was so worn that it wouldn't always lock in when adjusting. These are seats with motors. It was pretty easy really. Remove the seat, flip it over, remove about 10 small bolts. Lift the rails clear as a pair. Put it all back together and re-install in car. Took about an hour. The only trick is getting the seat in and out of the car without scratching the door sill.

Now I just need to find a replacement rail for the driver's door on the 85.5. Bruce
