Chillin out in the Midwest
Hi guys,
My A/C is not as cold as I would like it to be. So, I wanna recharge the system. How do I know if it's been converted or not? My plan is to just recharge the freon this summer and see if it lasts, or if there is a more major leak. Thanks for the info guys!

What he said^^ You need to know that a system that leaks is a problem. The oil for the compressor is carried by the freon and will leak out with the gas. If you're just gonna "patch" the system, get a 2 oz can of oil charge as well.

No, a closed system is just that, closed. As long as it stays closed the A/C will be as effective as it was from day 1. Now, there is some leakage through the hoses (especially with R134a - since the R134a molecules are smaller than the R12) but with the newer barrier hoses that should be eliminated or at least greatly limited.
If you're losing refrigerant then you have a leak.
