Question Can you build your own noid tester??

Is it possible to build an inexpensive noid tester? I have called and gone by just about every parts store around my area and no one carries a noid tester. They will order them but the only way you can get it is if you buy the entire kit that comes with numerous types for different makes of cars. I really don't want to have to spend the money for only needing 1 item out of the kit, and if I could build one from radio shack or something I wouldn't have to wait on shipping.

yep a small 12v bulb and a a couple of small spades wired up. maybe a 194 bulb solder the leads to it. Personally in a pinch I use a test light one side should have 12v constant. then connect the clip to the pos side and check for pulsing groundon the other terminal while cranking

If you have NAPA stores there they sell them individually.

They appear a lot on ebay for L-jet, at least on the 914 pages. Pricey, tho, about $21 with shipping.

See here.

If you are talking about the LED tester that plugs into the injector harness, I got mine at Autozone for less than 5 bucks. Bosch injectors are used on zillions of cars, so it is a very common style.

The Napa and a few others where I live say they only sell the complete set, and everywhere else acted like they had no idea what I was talking about.

The one I have fits the 951 and the Volvo my wife drives, it is worth its weight.

I immagine an LED set up for 12 volts would work fine but you would have to figure a way to connect it easily.

The factory test plan, part of the engine section of the manuals, has this as a tester:

Socal Driver- Is that tool meant to plug into the DME harness when unplugged?

Set up is from the factory manuals. They go on to state it can be used to check the injector for their pulse. I would find and buy the correct noid tester because it has the proper male/female base to fit between the harness and the injector.
