968 Cylinder Head Replacement...Any Advice
I'm looking for some advice on replacing my 968’s cylinder head in my garage. I have a refurbished, decked and checked cylinder head that I would like to install on my 968 in my garage/workshop while doing a complete front end reseal/water pump/belt(s) /roller service….I have all the tools/parts for the reseal/belt job including the Anworx kit.
I have done a lot of work on my 968…most recently RMS/flywheel/clutch….but I have never swapped out a cylinder head.
Is this a DIY….or should I leave this one to the pro’s? I need some practical advice/tips. Really appreciate any comments/advice/tips on this...

I am doing this to my mom's 968 right now. I have done this to 944s about 4 times and once to a 968 (well, on the 968 I only did the belts, reseal, and cams - never touched the HG). The 968 is extremely similar to the 944 so all the experience is applicable.
The best tips I can give you -
"wake up" every bolt before you try to open it
use PB blaster on every dry-looking bolt
leverage is your friend
get a flywheel lock
get injector seals and replace every bolt that gets stressed/damaged on removal
make dang sure the timing belt roller kit you buy really has every roller. They all need to be replaced.
Let me know if you get stuck - I for some reason love doing HG jobs on porsches.

Wow, you're up early. I won't be replacing the head - I don't have a clue where to get another one for a reasonable price. It does have 220k+ miles on it, so it will be getting new valve guides, new valve stem seals, and a shaved surface. I did a compression test and the compression was good so I believe the valves themselves are still good. I don't see why all the basic parts of these engines couldn't go beyond 300k miles, as long as you take good care of everything.
