It's usually the hard metal compound of the pad that will cause squeal.

Switch to a softer pad, or just deal with the squeal and smile because you know you're stopping more efficiently because of it.

no, but cheap cross drilled rotors may cause it. Make sure that all the holes are chamfered, otherwise they will chew the pads and may squeel.

The holes are chamfered. I changed the pads, put grease on the back, and these freakin things still squeal. Havent tried changing rotors yet. I hate squeaky brakes so much.

did you use the little circle pad antisqueel things? They helped my squeeling a lot!

I put a layer of electrical tape on the back of my pads and it stops squeal. Unless you track the car, the tape won't melt or anything. If you can think of a better material, go for it. I just had electrical tape on hand at the time (last year) and it's still there, intact.

Having the same noise problem with my x-drilled. Finished brake job about a week ago and getting a "rusty wagon wheel" sound every so often. Interestingly enough, not under hard braking, only when gliding to a stop.
Zimmerman X-drilled + Pagid blues.
Stopping has greatly improved though...

what is the purpose of using crossdrilled rotors?

just wonderign because I read that they serve no purpose and are just put on new cars because they look cool.
