Keep in mind all 78-84 US 928's are NOT valve benders

1983-84 928s are not that fast, especially if they have an automatic transmission. Your 44 is just as good at everything they can do, if not better. Only thing they have on you is top speed. unless you really like 928s over 944s then I dont see a reason to change cars.

For the record, I love 944's. I will only sell my 944S for a convertible 944S2. Just here to keep things accurate. They are totally different cars made for different markets.

I know the early 78-82 I think 928 were only 220 hp in N.A, not sure what teh 0-60 is for the 5speed models. I don't think I'd want an auto 928. I like the 80-81 928 because I think it is electronic fuel injection unlkike the 78-79 which is CIS and it's still non interference and also most early 928s I've seen are 5speed models.
the really early 928s are kind of ugly though.... at least in pictures, no spoiler / phone dials don't look too good on a 928
I was also wondering what the 0-60 is on the 220 hp 5speed early 928s.
kind of lame how the N.A early 928 got only 220 hp while the euro gets 300 hp, that's an extra 80 hp which is a lot.
I think my manual for my 944 says acceleration 7.5 secs 0-60.
I like the 928, the v8 sounds way nicer obviously and it is faster.

Once the supercharger is off, I've swapped TB's on my car in less than an hour. Water pump add another 20 minutes to be safe (taking my time to keep things clean).
I know, when I first started working on my 928 I was like "Holy **** this is complex!!".

The early 16V cars are very simple to work on. Two "gotcha's" though. Cam towers are a royal bitch to remove to that makes head gasket jobs a big event. The master cylinder for the clutch is buried, big time. It's almost faster to pull the engine to change one. In fact, if I ever buy another 16V 928, first job will be to pull the motor (takes about 3 hours) replace the head gasket & master cylinder just to get them out of they way.

81 5-spd 0-60 is reported to be 7.0 flat. All na 944s with the exception of the 16v were 8.5. In a race this would be 12-15 car-lengths! BTW on my 32v I can do a clutch job in two very easy hours. I can change the plugs in 10 minutes. The t-belt WP job is a bitch for time. It takes 4-5 hrs. OH, and my 0-60, in case your wondering is a slow 4.2 seconds. When I can get the tires to not spin wildly when I nail second I am sure I will be in the high 3's. I need dem' drag radials bad!

didn't know you can get significan't hp increase with exhaust mods on the early 16 v 928s. The thing I really like about the 928 is the sound / exhaust note.
One thing I noticed about the 928 is that there is very little headroom. I'm pretty short and my head almost touches the roof on the 928.
I will eventually get a 928 but I'm in school still so a 944 is more economical. Cheaper parts, easier to work on generally.

my dad owns a 1984 928S with an automatic transmission. It runs the stock 7 seconds to 60 and 15 seconds in the quarter mile, and it feels much stronger up top, but in all out acceleration from 30 miles per hour to 80 or so the 944 is right there with it. I must comment on how tame the 928 feels though, when your under hard acceleration the 928 feels relaxed and quiet while the 944 sounds like its gonna explode.
