Did you have the tires off of the rims when you painted?

Yes. I actually removed them, stripped them and my workmate sprayed them with basecoat clearcoat.

Looks good. I actually just got a set like that I was thinking of painting a little darker silver/gray than that. Something different.

I like the wheels, looks good on a 944. The "sewer lids" or trash cans don't look good on a 944 but they look good on a 924 / early 928s.

Is it possible to do a repainting on the cheap? As in take 'em off and spray paint 'em? Or would that just look like crap?

Very nice! Spray can wheel paint is actually pretty good, but it doesn't last too long.

I went to Kragen and bought a can of silver wheel paint, one can of white primer, and a can of clear coat. I cleaned and scuff sanded a wheel (about 1 hour), applied 2 coats of primer, 3 coats of paint, and 2 coats of clear, as per the instructions on the cans. Total job for that one wheel took me 3 hours of lazy work, and cost me about $20. I still had enough primer, paint and clear left over for another 6 wheels. And yes, it came out very well!
