Default Do you need to compress the springs to adjust front ride height for Turbo S?

Are the spring perch and adjusting collar two different units? I made an attempt to adjust the ride height, and i couldn't turn the adjusting collar. Either the spring perch is frozen to the adjusting collar, or they are one piece. I may need to compress the springs either way if its frozen really bad. any advice. thanks.

It's frozen. This happens quite often. Try soaking it in WD or PB and see what happens. You might try soaking it and driving for a couple of days while spraying it time to time.

I have had them so frozen that I destroyed them getting the perch to rotate on the collar.

Good luck.

+1 for frozen.
i have tried compressing the springs and pb blaster with both a brass punch and a spring perch wrench with no luck.
i will try pb again between drives, once it comes down off of jack stands.
let us know how it goes.

You do know that there are two nuts on there, right? ... one is the lock nut and the other is the perch.

I had to soak mine and then use a big wrench. Once they're clean, they move pretty easily.

This diagram should help:

#8 is the locking collar, and #9, the spring perch, is also threaded. So, #8 has to be backed off first (before #9 will have a prayer to turn).

seems like if the spring perch is threaded, the spring will rotate with the perch, is this ok? if not, then the spring will need to be compressed while making the adjustment.

Depending how much you want to adjust the ride height, you might be able to use a spanner wrench instead of compressing the spring.

I don't actually recall... but the #9 piece might be smooth on the top -- this way the would rotate under the spring while the spring nests in the #13 part. Surely the fine Porsche engineers were that smart...

the number 9 piece definitely is not smooth, it has a notch for the spring end. so i guess i'm back to having to compress the spring and unfreeze the threads.

Ya know, I just had a thought... The center of the #14 piece is a bearing... I bet, if you turn #9, the spring and #13 (along with the strut shaft) will turn.

Anyone know from experience?

I just had to adjust my M030 collars at the track a few weeks ago. Surprisingly it was very easy. Use the spanner wrench and loosen (lower) #8 It is a locking nut. If you are lowering the car move it far enough to get the perch where you want it. Then use the spanner wrench to adjust the perch #9. I didnt pay much attention to the spring and strut when I was adjusting it but Im pretty sure the spring and shatf of the strut both rotated as I raised the perch.

Yes that's right. If everything is clean you can actually jack up the car and rotate things by grabbing the spring. You can do this at the track by hand in a pinch... even with the wheel on.
