I believe all 85.5+ has them. I have one on my 87 NA.... the description at lindsay racing is for the turbo though. There are different codes for the NA

I hope I can find them...

Completely off subject but it really resembles an early 911 relay. Cool find by the way

I'm going to corner the market on production here... materials will cost 4 bucks and I will sell them for 5... perhaps after 200 units I can buy a tire. ROFL

Alright well I went out for a drive with the tool in place. There must be more to it or else I am not getting any codes, but I would think I should since my stock cycling valve has been removed.

If I start the car and put it in the diagnostic port and flip the switch to turn the green light on, it has a significant affect on the idle which must be correct to what I have read and what John(gremlin85) has posted. However if I flip the switch the opposite way it turns the green light out and doesn't do anything. I went for a drive and popped the hood to see if the red light was flashing at all and there is still nothing. I think there must be a step missing in using this device. I tried shutting the engine off and leaving the key in place just to see if anything happened, and that changed nothing.

I think that is the intended reaction and there are no codes present!

I made one of those the hard way. Buy expensive 911 relay ($30+?) that has the matching pins, chop it up and install your mini switch and LED. The 911 part # is 911 615 108 01 or 911 615 109 01 .

When the green light is on, that means the ISV is disabled. This is how you must set the idle, car must be up to normal operating temp and ISV must be disabled. You can basically do the same thing by jumping the top right and bottom pins on the port.

Dan, good job! It looks almost identical to mine. I assume mine is an original tool since there is no evidence that it was ever cut open. Did the actual Porsche tool look like what I have?

So since I am not getting any red flashes, I don't have any codes at this time? When the tool is set to read codes will it just start flashing as soon as the engine is brought over 1,500 rpm's?

That's OE diagnostic tool 9246, described in the Factory Shop Manuals Turbo supplement, in sections 24-6, 28-30, etc.

Nice to have an original unit!

Thanks for the info! I was wondering if it actually had a name or was described anywhere. Does it say anything about the operation of it?

Yes, it gives interpretations for different blink codes. Refer to the FSM Turbo Supplement for more details.
