Default balance belt tensioning (timing belt question too)

OK, I lied, I did not tension the balance belt correctly. I'm using the arnworx gauge right now, but when I tighten the belt, the gauge goes backwards ????

Also, I just read that I was supposed to rotate the cam backwards 10 degrees before I tensioned the belt?? I did not do that, what should I do now??

rotating backwards isnt always necessary, it depends.

retarding it a little bit makes it so when you tension, if it moves the gear, it will move it back to its correct spot. when i did mine yesterday, it didnt move.
