Default "stiff" steering

I've got a manual rack in my 951, and the steering is a lot harder than any other manual racked Porsche I've driven. The rack and tie rods are new, the intermediate shaft is used, so I am leaning that way. I've always thought the failure of the intermediate shaft bearings caused sloppy steering, not stiff steering. Any suggestions?

Best to replace the intermediate shaft or should I look at something else?

There is an adjustment procedure in the shop manuals on the manual rack. If it is adjusted too tight, it is a real bear to turn. Too loose and you get steering vibration at speed.

wow, all it needed was a little adjustment. there is a 17mm jam nut on the rack, with a 7mm adjustment "screw". 3/4 of a turn counterclockwise and the steering feels almost perfect now. never knew these things could be adjusted, thanks Doc!
