If we asume that both are new that means that we are back in 1986 right? If that is the case the mustang could not compete with the 944 turbo, out of the box of course.

Yes, impressive for a stock 951 isn't? it wasn't my car, it was big John's and at that time big John weighted something like 400 lbs, lol and still won.

Please for the love of all thats holy just admit, while it has 8 cyl and more power it is NOT a better car, it is NOT a better handling car, it is nothing more than a stop light to stop light car. The mustang of course. Not to mention it looks like *** IMO.

Plus the P car is over 20 years old! LOL. Hold on lets put the P car against a 2007 Mustang and I bet the P car will hold its own not only in speed but blow it away in the handling department.

Face it 944 is one of the most underated cars EVER and seems to be the punching bag for the entire web. Dumb.

I am not shocked the 951 won. Mustangs aren't good in the turns like 951's and who knows who was driving the SVT anyway. It could have been my Mother.

Ok Lart, I dont know your car so im not going to say you can or can not beat a real cobra R. Having said that, I will say I dont think that there are many 951's out there that could hang with a cobra R on the track. And the mustang in the first video was not a real Cobra R.

Oh and just so everyone knows, The Cobra R did have IRS not a solid axel.

Yeah but still the Porsche is at least 15 years old LOL, that speaks for itself. Let get a 15 to 20 year old mustang to run with it. Oh yeah, that would be pretty impossible as most of them are in the junk yard.

LOL, I love these kinds of threads. There are plenty of fox body mustangs that run pretty well too. There are aslo alot of junkyard/parted out 944's too. I will be the first to say that with the same $ spent a 951 and a 5.0 mustang of that era would be pretty similar in performance. I am a former mustang owner ('87 5.0 LX), and it was way faster than most modern cars too. It also handled very well. I used to beat up on the wrx guys on the local canyon roads. I bought a 944 because I loved the look of the car and I wanted something diffrent to play with.

Dan, before you make a statement like that you need to get the facts straight. about 951's drop by the turbo forum and ask the guys there. Also I never said it was a cobra R, not that would make any difference.

Well it was and still is my opinion. 951's are awsome fast cars but your making it sound like they are the end all, be all of the automotive world. Shure you could mod a 951 to beat 99% of street cars out there, but you could do that with a mustang too.

I do agree with that and as a matter of fact Mustangs can be made faster than a 951 in a straight line of course.

Listen, knucklehead...

I know I'll regret wasting time on this, but I have a 20 year old 951 and a 20 year old mustang. My 951 (typical) listed for $33,800, and my mustang listed for $8474. That was in "1987" dollars. I would say you are comparing apples to pomegranites.

Between the two cars there's over 800 hp dynoed at the ground, on pump gas, at over 110 degrees ambient air temp. The mustang's title says it's a four cylinder as well...

Care to find out?
