I am looking at a car that has issues with 1st gear. The car is an 86 951 with 90K miles.
The issue is as follows:
When the car is off, 1st gear can be engaged, you can go through all the gears without any problems. When the car is started only 1st gear cannot be engaged and sometime 2nd.
My research has led me to think that the synchros may be shot. The owner told me that the linkage needs adjustment and hydraulics bled.
Has anyone ever encounter similar situations, if so, any help would be appreciated.
TIA

I don't know about your specific problem, but if it is the synchros, you could buy some time by changing the trans oil to synthetic. I switched to Redline MTL in my 924S and my 1st to 2nd grind nearly went away. Now it only does it when the trans is cold. It really made a big difference. At about $30 for the 3 quarts, it's a whole lot cheaper (and way easier) than anything else you can do inside the tranny, so I'd try that first.

I had the same problem, discovered the clutch/brake fluid was low. After filling the tank and pumping the clutch pedal a couple times everything was normal. Mine did not require bleeding, yours may.
